In Balinese Hindu culture, marriage is seen as an important transition in life. It is the moment when two people begin a new chapter together, but also when they become part of each other's family and lineage. Because of this, family plays a very important role in the celebrations and rituals.

The ceremony itself is filled with beautiful symbolism. There are prayers, offerings made from flowers, rice, fruit and leaves, and the use of holy water for purification and blessings. The couple wears incredibly elaborate traditional clothing and takes part in a series of rituals that represent their union and their responsibilities to one another.

Ancestors are also an important part of the celebration. In Balinese Hinduism, the connection between generations is deeply felt, so a wedding is not only about the people who are present. It is also about honoring those who came before and welcoming the couple into a new stage of their family story.

Depending on the family and the traditions of their village, the ceremonies can take place at the family compound, a family temple, or other sacred spaces. There is often music, food, offerings, and a beautiful gathering of family and community.

What I love most about Balinese weddings is that they are not really about one single moment. They are a whole process of transformation. Two people are not simply saying "I do." They are stepping into a new role, joining their families, honoring their ancestors, and creating a new beginning together.
