Naturally, the first test Mama Bali presented was whether we deserved the opportunity. Within our first year, our neighborhood - and property - was surrounded by a wave of aggressive development. The kind that would have completely changed the energy of this calm relational village, turning the rice fields and jungle to a foreign land with concrete walls.
Our neighbors didn’t want to sell their lands, but were deeply struggling post-covid. We had a choice — sell and get out, or double-down with our Balinese community to do something completely different.
An unusual village family
By working together - as foreigners and Balinese - our community has prevented the commercial development of a huge amount of heritage land in our village. In the process, we’ve built lifetime friendships and the experience of family. We’re honored to be welcomed into Balinese weddings and life ceremonies, and into the relational web of real village life in Bali. Something we miss in the West, and we wish to remember.
Living the joy of bringing a dream to life
In a Bali overrun by concrete developments and extractive foreign investors, we are doing something completely different. We are building a dynamic social venture to invite others behind the scenes into Balinese culture, while preserving her land and building wealth for the community. Everything we do is done the spirit of win-win-win. And that is felt by all.

Something wants to be born here. We are now stewarding 26 concurrent plots of land forming a perimeter over the 9th Century carvings. (We ourselves are stunned.)
The Campus is home for many of us, full-time and part-time, and increasingly a home base for international friends who are pitching in to make this possible with their talent, creativity and funds.
